Mackenzie Harris

Meet Mackenzie Harris aka Buffalo’s only African American working in production at a brewing company. According to the brewer’s association, the beer market brings in around $116 billion dollars a year, less than 1% of that industry is comprises of Black brewers.

While photographing Mackenzie, he shared with me his vision of opening his own micro brewery on Buffalo’s east-side, making it the city’s first Black owned brewing company.

Things are looking promising as he has already produced his first dark ale in collaboration with Pittsburgh’s Hop Farm Brewing Company paying homage to Uncle Dug’s Dive Bar that was once a saloon that provided entertainment to Black sailors at the Port of Buffalo.
